auto correct function

maybe I should post this question over here in the questions section instead of the bugs and features section - can't seem to get any attention over there.

Auto correct function -
by Joso3 » Fri Feb 12, 2010 8:23 am

On the spelling options menu, I have selected "Automatically correct spelling errors as you type"
I have added "m1" to be replaced with "January" in the Custom Dictionary / Auto-Corrections

when I type m1, it does not change to January as I type

If I run the spell check, it changes m1 to January, but not as I type it - same with other misspellings and double caps function.

is there something I can fiddle with in the cfg file? or is this feature of the spell checker just not supported.

It would be nice to have my shorthand abbreviations pop into full words as I type.

Thanks

Joe

If you're looking for that [or something better], try AUTOHOTKEY or TypingAid - both very good, free, and portable solutions to help in that area.
There's no need in reinventing the wheel; and these are working in all applications.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Stingray

1. for the prompt reply
2. for the neat little gnu prog - AutoHotKey - looks very useful.

That said, the program (mynotekeeper) really should do what it says it can do - I'm beginning to see it's sort of patched together. I like some of the features, but I'm wary of investing a lot of time in a program that hasn't been fully worked out.

Thanks again.

Your welcome.

I've been writing, entering data and reports for a long time in to MyNotesKeeper and find it perfectly satisfying. The function your talking about, reporting, I personally don't agree should be in MyNotesKeeper; it's functionality just doesn't mesh. I think I know what your looking for, but other programs do that much better then MyNotesKeeper does. And more to the suggestions, an effort called AUTOCLIP is a text expander- which I think would work better for you- it's very small, portable, free and works in every application.

If this sparks your curiosity, do a search for 'AUTOTEXT FREEWARE' in Google. You find some really good options. That work everywhere, not just MyNotesKeeper.

and to the other comment...

I've to defend the ADMIN on this one. MyNotesKeeper, like every other program, is a process of development.
Your argument could be applied to any program that has a bug, or lacks a function a person thinks should be there.

I've personally been using MyNotesKeeper for about 3yrs and find it to be an outstanding program and effort by the programmer [I actually bought a license]; and the program continues to grow.
MyNotesKeeper is an effort, and result, of a collection of suggestions from users, just as yourself; including myself.

While I understand the concept of advertisement and function; I don't think that any kind of intentional deception is performed. The ADMIN seem to have a genuine care to fix and maintenance the program. If he didn't, I’d not be so defensive. And if MyNotesKeeper is to have this feature, and it's not functioning right, if reported, the ADMIN will fix it... it's just a matter of time. My approach would be, if I wanted that functionality in my program [expanding text phrases], it might be useful in other programs; a function like that should be Operating System wide- to benefit me all the time.

I personally, have tried a great many packages that try to organize and store and do all the things that MyNotesKeeper does [and as recent as a few weeks ago], but my opinion is just as solid as it was when I found it; it's a great program and has lots of potential, feature rich and I think it's very stable [it's never crashed on me]. It's well worth the small amount of money you pay to register it.

I don't think it's fair to judge an application on just ONE function it advertises, and so minuscule at that. If that was the case, applying this to other software makers, I think Microsoft Windows is in a lot of trouble...

I appreciate it...

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,

See what I mean?

I'm so pleased with your AutoHotKey program that I wanted to shut off the auto-check function of the speller in Mynoteskeeper. - Couldn't do it with the "options" button in the spelling dialog - had to modify the ini file to turn the damn auto-checker off. - no more red lines in my notes.

On the plus side, I'm very pleased that this program has a means of password protecting my notes file and the ability to export it to a searchable exe ebook format - very nice. You mentioned 3rd party plug-ins in an earlier posting - no response? I also appreciate the developer publishing a portable version I can carry around on my usb drive.

This program reminds me of the early days of XyWrite (wordprocessor) - there was always a way to do what you wanted to do, you just had to dig a little - and the developer(s) listened to the user base.

Thanks again for your help - I'll keep plugging away at it.
